Now that it’s summer, there’s no better time to be creative with ice cream recipes. I’ve already shared some of my favorites, like Mamey Ice Cream and of course a copycat of the famous Chick-fil-A Ice Cream. Even my kid, who isn’t usually a big fan of blueberries, adores it. This recipe will inspire you to create many more delicious ice cream combinations.

I’m thinking of making a Chocolate Muffin Ice Cream next, and I’m excited about trying Cheesecake ice cream soon, which I’ll share next weekend. For now, this Blueberry Muffin Ice Cream is a fun and creative way to enjoy cold, refreshing sweet flavors mixed with your favorite soft muffins.

Mamey Ice Cream https://manthatlooksgood.com/mamey-ice-cream/ https://manthatlooksgood.com/mamey-ice-cream/#comments Tue, 01 Apr 2025 14:00:57 +0000 https://manthatlooksgood.com/?p=3346 If you follow my blog, you will notice that lately, I’ve been tasting some new ice cream flavors to enjoy. This is summer, and there’s no better time than now to explore different kinds of ice creams. So, I made this Tropical Mamey Ice Cream yesterday. The taste was a little different from the usual ice cream we make, but it was good to have and explore.

I got the idea to make this Mamey Ice Cream from a TV show I watched where they talked about mamey fruits. Since I have a Hispanic market close to my home, it was easy for me to get the fruit. I used it as the base of this ice cream, following the same directions and ingredients as you would with any other ice cream based on fruit.

I loved the taste; to be honest, it was similar to sweet potato with sugar or a mix of sweet potato and mashed pumpkin. Imagine this taste chilled perfectly and enjoyed as ice cream—it’s a great experience to have for sure.

What is Mamey Ice Cream?

Mamey is a tropical fruit that tastes like a mix of sweet potato and mashed pumpkin, with a hint of almonds. I used mamey because I was looking for a different taste to enjoy. The Mamey Ice Cream tasted really good—creamy and sweet, made with mamey, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and a little salt. After chilling and mixing everything, I used a machine to turn it into ice cream that we could scoop and eat on hot days. So unlike the mamey fruit, the ice cream is similar to any homemade ice cream you can make at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of ripe mamey, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup of whole milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Kitchen Equipment Needed

  • Blender or food processor
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Ice cream maker
  • Airtight container
  • Spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

How to Make Mamey Ice Cream?

Step 1:

Peel and cut the ripe mamey fruit. Make sure to take out any seeds, Put the mamey pieces into a blender.

Step 2:

Add whole milk to the blender with the mamey and Blend until it becomes smooth and creamy.

Step 3:

In a big bowl, mix the mamey puree, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Stir until everything is mixed well.

Step 4:

Pour the mix into a container and cover it with plastic wrap. Put it in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

Step 5:

Once the mix is cold, pour it into an ice cream maker. Follow the instructions to churn it.

Step 6:

Move the churned ice cream into a tight container. Put it in the freezer for at least 6 hours.

Step 7:

After that Scoop the mamey ice cream into bowls or cones. Enjoy.

Some Tips!

  • Try to get ripe mamey fruit for the best experience making and enjoying this ice cream.
  • Don’t forget to remove all seeds and tough parts from the mamey before blending.
  • Taste the mixture before freezing and check if you need to add more sugar.

How to Store Leftovers?

Just put it in a container with a tight lid and keep it in the freezer. Make sure the lid is on well to stop ice from forming on the ice cream. It’s best to enjoy it in max 2 weeks.

What to Eat with Mamey Ice Cream?

You can enjoy your Mamey Ice Cream on its own, but you can also have it with some other meals and desserts. So Try serving a scoop of mamey ice cream on top of warm waffles or pancakes for a sweet and refreshing breakfast meal. Since this is a tropical fruit it’s better to enjoy with some fresh slices of mango or pineapple. You can also make a fun dessert by sandwiching mamey ice cream between two homemade cookies or crumbling it over Galaxy Brownies. Another idea is to drizzle chocolate or caramel sauce over the ice cream.

FAQ
